THE HISTORY
OF CROSS OF CHRIST
In 1993 work was begun in East Broomfield to establish a new ELCA congregation.
Pastor Keith Prekker was the Mission Developer who knocked on doors
in many developments
in the Broomfield area, inviting people to be a part of this new congregation.
The first worship service was held at Mountain View Elementary School
in November of 1994.
The work of establishing this new church was helped along by many people,
including a group from Lutheran Church of Hope in west Broomfield.
In 1996 construction was begun on a first building at the corner of
121st and Lowell Blvd.
That building was completed in 1997 and the first worship service was
held in March of that year.
Due to increased growth, a building addition was constructed in 1999-2000.
This added space to the sanctuary, fellowship hall, and also added
7 classrooms.
With this new space, the congregation opened Cross of Christ preschool
in the fall of 2000,
with daytime classes for 3 and 4 year olds.
In 2002, Pastor Prekker was sent to establish a new congregation in
Erie, Rejoice Lutheran Church.
Cross of Christ supported this new congregation financially and by
sending people
to become part of the first core membership.
In 2004 the congregation observed their 10th anniversary
with a year-long celebration culminating with a special banquet and
worship services in November.
In 2008 another addition to the church's Education wing was constructed.
This space is used for Sunday School and to accomodate the growing
Preschool and Kindergarten weekday programs.
Currently the church is in the planning process for more expansion
in staffing and building space.
Cross of Christ continues to thrive and to grow as the Broomfield
area has grown.
With God's grace we worship, serve and learn together as a congregation,
and we invite everyone to come and be a part of this Christian community.
